Amberson and Chapin Run for Congress in
Minnesota District Six

Anson Amberson

Statement from the Candidate:

“Hello! I am Anson Amberson, and I desire the Minnesota DFL nomination in CD 6 to run against Representative Emmer in 2026. I served communities for over 40 years through United Methodist service projects, Habitat For Humanity, medical research, disaster relief, the Saint Cloud Hospital trauma center, retail pharmacy, natural resources management and education, substitute teaching, Aviation programs, and more. I have empathy for all people, and my broad experience enables me to appreciate citizens’ concerns about government and craft or critique proposed legislation to address those concerns. Before moving to Minnesota in 2005, I grew up on a farm in Wisconsin, lived in Scotland for a semester, graduated with honors from the University of Wisconsin in Eau Claire, got married, and started a family in Iowa. Also, I joined the DFL party in 2018 as a Precinct Chair, I attended both the DFL State Convention and the DNC in 2024, and my most meaningful Political Science college course was “Dilemmas of War and Peace.” My wife, Rachel, and I have two children, and we live in rural Benton County.”

“Doug Chapin is running to represent Minnesota’s Sixth Congressional District after a long career as a nationally recognized expert and media commentator on democracy and elections. He spent nine years studying politics, government and law and has over 35 years of experience working in and around public service. Doug served as an attorney in Congress, represented clients in private law practice, and worked as an advocate for federal, state and local election reform nationwide – and built the nation’s first online certificate program in election administration for the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs. Doug and his partner Stephanie Tomlinson own Sweater Vest Strategies, a Minnesota-based policy research and advocacy firm. He also is the host of Civics Anonymous, a regular series of nonpartisan discussions on the inner workings of law and government behind the current headlines. Doug is the father of three adult children and lives in Hanover.”
